Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) data showed that the unemployment rate rose sharply to touch a 28-month high of 8.4% in the third week of April 2019. While the lowest unemployment rate was 2.9% (in the year 1953), the highest unemployment rate of 9.7% was registered in the year 1982.
